Rabenhorst: 50 years organic

Since 1969, holistic quality and ecological practices have been a part of the long-established German company of juice specialists from the Rhine.

Unkel/Cologne, April 2019: For 50 years, Rabenhorst has been dedicated to holistic organic principles in creating its juices: from plant cultivation to harvesting, processing, storage and transport of its valued organic ingredients. Quality and ecology have always been their top priority. The raw ingredients are of the purest quality and the resulting products as natural as possible. Fruits and vegetables from predominantly controlled organic cultivation are carefully processed and continuously tested to guarantee the highest Rabenhorst quality standards, often stricter than EU legal requirements. The fruits and vegetables are gently pasteurised ensuring as much of nature’s goodness as possible is preserved.

For Rabenhorst it is also just as important to ensure the extensive protection of natural habitats as well as its dedication to nature. In this way, this long-established company actively promotes the protection of nature and the environment in order to safeguard its future. In the autumn of 2018, for example, three regional collection points for apple orchard meadow owners were set up near Unkel to support the preservation of traditional regional orchard meadows and to promote sustainable cultivation and management. Rabenhorst was already pioneering organic quality long before the "organic" theme became popular in Germany. In 1969, this premium juice producer awarded its first research project to the University of Kassel and, together with the Institute for Ecological Agriculture, was able to advance the trend-setting cultivation of organic fruit and vegetables.

Holistic, ecological and sustainable

Over the years, they have also undertaken various measures to improve the environmental sustainability of the company's buildings and production facilities. As early as 1978 Rabenhorst converted its production boiler systems to more sustainable natural gas, and in the 1990s it achieved the first accreditation by the EU Eco-Audit Regulation. The organic concept is also further exemplified and reflected on the company premises: resistant grape varieties were planted as early as 2003, and three years later were used as façade greening on suitable outer walls.

Excellent organic quality

Today, almost 50 successful premium juices of the best organic quality are available under the Rabenhorst and Rotbäckchen brands. The ever-popular favourites, Rabenhorst Red Grape Juice (Roter Rabenhorster), ‘For the Immune system’ as well as Rotbäckchen Original (Klassik), Immune and Learning have been optimised for the natural health food industry ensuring highest organic quality. In addition, the multi-fruit juices Rabenhorst Antiox, Rabenhorst Monastery Garden and Rotbäckchen Original were awarded the coveted consumer-jury "Best Organic 2019" prize. Every year several of their organic juices receive the annual German Agricultural Society’s "DLG-Gold" award. In 2018 Rabenhorst was again awarded the Federal Prize (Bundesehrenpreis) for outstanding products, and in 2019 was awarded - for the eighth time - the German Agricultural Society’s (DLG) prize for continuous excellence in product quality.

Founded in 1805 as a winery, Rabenhorst is today a highly specialised producer of premium fruit and vegetable juices, with its headquarters in Unkel along the Rhine River. The focus is on sustainability in the procurement, production and packaging of its natural ingredients. Rabenhorst's special expertise lies in its knowledge of nature, its active ingredients and their integration into healthy nutrition. Holistic natural quality, continuity as well as innovation and trend awareness - these are the strengths of Rabenhorst. www.haus-rabenhorst.de
